Employment for Therapists

For the mental health practitioner eager to develop as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, the WSI Treatment Center is an ideal setting. Located in lower Manhattan in the heart of Greenwich village,we have a diverse and interesting patient base.

WSI is a non-profit treatment center; we do not participate in managed care. This allows us independence from the third party involvement of insurance companies and government agencies in our case management and we are free to practice psychotherapy in the manner that best fits our patients' particular needs.

A typical staff position involves 10 clinical hours per week, often evening and Saturday hours, plus one weekly individual supervisory hour with a senior psychoanalyst. Clinical staff are also required to attend monthly Scientific Meetings held on the last Thursday evening of each month during the Academic Year [October-May]. Staff positions are offered to those practitioners who are able to demonstrate a serious interest in learning and refining their psychoanalytic knowledge and technical skill. Current personal experience in psychoanalytic therapy is very desirable. Potential applicants must be aware that some of our patients are often psychologically sophisticated and may be seeking a substantial therapy lasting for some years. Other patients seek shorter term therapy. We may or may not take these patients, making a decision during the intake process on a case by case basis. New staff are required to make an initial time commitment of three years for affiliation with the WSI Treatment Center.
