About WSI
Founded in 1960, Washington Square Institute is a pioneering non-profit educational institute committed to providing psychotherapy services and psychoanalytic training based on the concepts of psychoanalytic psychology. Our Treatment Center and Training Institute are integrated under an Absolute Charter granted by the New York State Board of Regents and housed under one roof in our Greenwich Village facility.
Our Treatment Center provides comfortable and welcoming surroundings to approximately 700 people who are seen weekly at a sliding fee scale. We have a large, experienced, and well-trained staff of clinical practitioners who are graduates of major universities and psychoanalytic institutes. Our Training Institute offers a full range of psychoanalytic training programs in psycho-analysis, family forensics and supervision of the therapeutic process. Candidates in our training programs program have the opportunity to study in a scholarly environment and to train in psychotherapy with clinical practitioners of diverse psychodynamic orientations.
WSI promotes continuing opportunities for professional contact and development via workshops, scientific meetings, conferences and seminars scheduled throughout the year. We are approved as a provider of Continuing Education by the American Psychological Association and are affiliated with the International Federation of Psychoanalytic Education, the Association of Autonomous Psychoanalytic Institutes and the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis.
